Thank you for viewing an animal from Companion Animal Foundation today!
Zella is a spayed female German Shepherd mixed breed dog who is less than 3 years old. She is negative for Heartworm and has an auto immune disorder, Pemphigus. Zella is currently on medication for the condition and is doing so much better. When her skin is completely healed it is hoped that she can discontinue the medication. Her foster people are hoping to find a forever home for Zella with someone who knows about holistic health for dogs (or how to access it) and will be committed to helping Zella wean off her meds eventually.
Here is what her rescuers want you to know about Zella:
Zella is a petite German Shepherd mix (50 lbs) who is great with kids, an excellent running partner, very sweet and loving and eager to learn. She came to us as a foster dog a few months ago from a very neglectful situation where she was, reportedly, on a leash for the better part of 2 ½ years. She does pretty well but needs a little practice socializing with other dogs and house manners. Zella is house trained and learns quickly. She is super bright! Her skin was in very bad condition until after multiple vet visits we got a diagnosis and found a treatment that works. She is looking good, has gained a few pounds and is regaining her energy. Zella is great around my kids (ages 6 and 9) and their friends but is a little too excited for the cats’ comfort. She has been known to kill chickens.
Zella needs an active person who is committed to consistent, gentle discipline and has the resources and ability to involve her in their life every day. She understandably has a little separation anxiety and we do not want her to go to a home where she will be left alone. That said, I have already noticed a big difference in her as she gains trust. We love her and care for her health and heart and want her to go to the best home possible!
There will be a $75 adoption fee for Zella and we are requesting reimbursement for vet fees of $200 (which is negotiable).
